With New NOAA Grant, "Project Clean Sweep" Will Remove 465 Tons of Large Marine Debris from 80 Miles of Bay Shoreline
Media Can View Debris Removal Demonstration with Governor and Dignitaries

Governor Donald Carcieri and a large group of federal, state, and local officials will gather at Bristol Marine, Bristol to herald the accomplishments of Project Clean Sweep, the state's unprecedented campaign to rid Narragansett Bay of marine debris. At the event, federal officials from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will present a new $174,000 grant to the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management to expand work along 80 miles of Bay shoreline bordering six Bay communities.

Officials will also introduce a new leadership team for Clean the Bay, the non-profit organization responsible for medium and large size debris removal and a new partnership with Save The Bay to remove the smaller debris along the shoreline.

After brief remarks, the media are invited along with the Governor, Senators Reed and Whitehouse, Congressman Patrick Kennedy, DEM Director W. Michael Sullivan, PhD, and NOAA Marine Debris Program Coordinator and other dignitaries to view a demonstration of marine debris removal operations.
