Grow Smart Rhode Island

Grow Smart Rhode Island is a statewide non-profit organization. Through research, public education and advocacy work, Grow Smart seeks to raise public awareness about the negative impacts of suburban sprawl and urban disinvestment on the state's economic vitality, environmental health, and social equity. Grow Smart believes that brownfields reuse is a critical element of urban and town center revitalization. In February, 2001, Grow Smart convened a statewide conference on brownfields that produced a series of policy recommendations.  Since the conference, Grow Smart has worked with other organizations and state agencies to begin to implement those policies. With a grant from the USEPA, Grow Smart is currently researching the extent and character of brownfields sites in Rhode Island and financial incentives that are working successfully in other states.

Save the Bay

Save The Bay is a statewide environmental organization that actively participated in the Brownfields Task Force and is in the process of developing an Explore The Bay Center at Field's Point on a former city dump.
