DEM HAS APPOINTMENTS AVAILABLE FOR JULY 19 HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE DISPOSAL PROVIDENCE - Rhode Island residents can still make appointments to dispose of household hazardous wastes Saturday, July 19 at the RI Department of Environmental Management's centralized Eco-Depot by calling 222-3434, weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Additional disposal dates are available between now and November. The Eco-Depot is DEM's most popular residential program, and has collected more than 85,000 gallons of household hazardous waste from 5,304 residents since the facility opened in June 1995. Typical household hazardous wastes accepted include oil-based paints, thinners and other household solvents; pesticides and herbicides; household cleansers; swimming pool and hobby chemicals; and automotive fluids such as transmission fluid, antifreeze, and dry gas. Used motor oil can be dropped off at DEM's "oil igloos" located in most communities. The Eco-Depot is operated by the Department of Environmental Management, in cooperation with the Narragansett Bay Commission, at Fields Point, Providence. |
