DEM SCHEDULES OCTOBER HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTIONS
PROVIDENCE - Rhode Island residents can dispose of household hazardous wastes by appointment on Saturday, October 4 and Saturday, October 18, when the RI Department of Environmental Management holds collections at its "Eco-Depot", at Fields Point, Providence. Residents can call 222-3434 to schedule a time to drop off their toxic materials on one of the two October dates. The last two collection dates of the year will be scheduled in November. Household hazardous wastes accepted include oil-based paints, thinners and other household solvents; pesticides and herbicides; household cleansers; swimming pool and hobby chemicals; and automotive fluids such as transmission fluid, antifreeze, and dry gas. Used motor oil can be dropped off at DEM's "oil igloos" located in most communities. The Eco-Depot is operated by the Department of Environmental Management, in cooperation with the Narragansett Bay Commission. More than 96,000 gallons of household hazardous waste have been collected from 6,048 residents since the facility opened in June 1995. | ||
