News Release RI Department of Environmental Management For Release: August 23, 1999 Contact: Michael Lapisky 222-3075 or 789-0281 Stephanie Powell 222-4700 ext. 4418 DEM ANNOUNCES THAT PERMITS ARE NOW AVAILABLE FOR NORTHWEST COOPERATIVE DEER HUNTING PROVIDENCE - The Department of Environmental Management's Division of Fish and Wildlife announces that permits are now available for the archery and muzzleloader deer hunting seasons in the Northwest Cooperative. The Northwest Cooperative is privately owned land in Glocester where owners are working cooperatively with DEM to allow deer hunting on their land. Both archery and muzzleloader deer hunters must have state permits to hunt in the Northwest Cooperative. The archery season will be October 1 to January 31; the muzzleloader season will be November 6 to November 28. To obtain a permit, send a 9 1/2" by 4" (legal sized), stamped, self-addressed envelope to: Northwest Cooperative, DEM Division of Fish and Wildlife, PO Box 218, West Kingston, RI 02892. Please remember to indicate which permit type you are requesting: archery, muzzleloader, or both. Although shotgun hunters do not need a permit, they must check in and out of the Durfee Hill check station daily if they are hunting in the Northwest Cooperative area from December 4 to December 12. The Cooperative will not be open for shotgun deer hunting from December 13 to December 17. All other deer hunting regulations apply to hunters in the Northwest Cooperative. The abstract is available at all license vendors, and at several DEM offices including Fish and Wildlife headquarters, Oliver Stedman Government Center,Wakefield, and at the licensing office at DEM headquarters, 235 Promenade St., Providence. |
