MEDIA ADVISORY

PROVIDENCE - The Department of Environmental Management will convey the title to Plum Beach Lighthouse to Friends of Plum Beach Lighthouse, Inc., at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 21.

Plum Beach Lighthouse is located in the westerly passage of Narragansett Bay, 900 yards off Plum Beach Point and just north of the Jamestown Bridge, in the Town of North Kingstown. The lighthouse is visible from Plum Beach. Friends of Plum Beach Lighthouse, Inc. is a non-profit organization that will rehabilitate and restore the structure for use as an educational, historical and recreational center.

Participants in the news conference will include DEM Director Jan H. Reitsma, Shirley Silvia, President of Friends of Plum Beach Lighthouse, Inc., and representatives from the Department of Transportation, Town of North Kingstown and U.S. Senator John H. Chafee's office.

Directions from Providence: Take I-95 south to Rt. 4 south to Rt. 138 east. Take the first exit off 138 east to Rt. 1A north (Boston Neck Road), and take the first right onto Plum Beach Road. Follow Plum Beach Road to bottom of hill, bear right and follow to the end. The beach pavilion will be on your right.
