PROVIDENCE - The Department of Environmental Management will sponsor a public information workshop concerning a request by the Island Hi-Speed Ferry LLC to berth a 122-foot vessel on the south side of State Pier 3 in Galilee. The company plans to use the vessel for ferry service to and from Block Island beginning July 1. The ferry would seasonally operate each year from about May 15 to October 15.

At the workshop, representatives of the ferry company will describe their plans and answer questions from the public. The public will have the opportunity to voice their opinions and make suggestions to DEM officials, who must respond to the request from the company.

The workshop will be held on Wednesday, May 31 at 7 p.m. in the Narragansett Town Hall Council Chambers at 25 Fifth Avenue in Narragansett. The meeting site is accessible to people with disabilities. Those requesting interpreter services for the hearing impaired should notify DEM at 783-5551 at least 72 hours in advance of the meeting.
