DEM SCHEDULES TWO HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTIONS AT ITS ECO-DEPOT IN JUNE Residents Can Drop Off of Materials by Appointment PROVIDENCE - Rhode Island residents who want to dispose of household hazardous wastes will have two opportunities to do so in June, at the Department of Environmental Management's Eco-Depot at Fields Point in Providence. The household hazardous waste collections will be held on Saturday, June 10 and Saturday, June 24, by appointment only. Residents can call DEM at 222-3434 to schedule an appointment. Typical household hazardous wastes accepted include oil-based paints and stains, thinners and other household solvents; pesticides and herbicides; household cleansers; swimming pool and hobby chemicals; and automotive fluids such as transmission fluid, antifreeze, and dry gas. Used motor oil can be dropped off at DEM's oil igloos located in most municipalities. The Eco-Depot is DEM's most popular residential program, and has collected more than 191,000 gallons of household hazardous waste since the facility opened in June 1995. It is operated by DEM in cooperation with the Narragansett Bay Commission. |
