DEM ANNOUNCES CHANGES TO COMMERCIAL SUMMER FLOUNDER REGULATIONS

PROVIDENCE - The Department of Environmental Management's Division of Fish and Wildlife announces that the daily possession limit for commercially harvested summer flounder will be reduced, from 300 pounds to 100 pounds, beginning Sunday, September 17. The fishery will then close on Sunday, September 24 and remain closed until November 1.

The two actions are a result of higher than anticipated weekly landings this month. The actions are necessary to ensure the availability of fish and to prevent the state from exceeding its 261,387-pound seasonal quota for summer flounder caught by commercial fishermen.
