PUBLIC INVITED TO MEETING NOVEMBER 29 ON RESULTS OF PRIVATE WELL SAMPLING IN NORTH SMITHFIELD PROVIDENCE - The Department of Environmental Management and the Department of Health, in conjunction with the Town of North Smithfield, will hold a meeting for the public on November 29 to provide residents with information and to answer questions about the private well sampling that was recently conducted in the North Smithfield area. DEM will explain the purpose of the sampling, the results that were found, and the upcoming plans for the area. The informational meeting will be held at the North Smithfield Municipal Annex at 575 Smithfield Road (Route 146A) in North Smithfield. More than 200 private drinking water wells in North Smithfield were tested as part of a statewide screening associated with six federally identified potentially contaminated sites in North Smithfield. The analysis of groundwater seeks to identify the potential for off-site migration of contamination. The sites are among 140 sites in Rhode Island on the "CERCLA" list. Testing was previously conducted in Johnston, Scituate, Charlestown and West Greenwich. |
