News Release RI Department of Environmental Management 235 Promenade St., Providence, RI 02908 (401) 222-2771 TDD/(401) 222-4462
DEM ANNOUNCES CHANGES TO COMMERCIAL SUMMER FLOUNDER REGULATIONS PROVIDENCE - The Department of Environmental Management will decrease the daily possession limit for the summer flounder commercial fishery from 600 pounds to 200 pounds per vessel effective Sunday, December 10. Based on currently reported catch rates, DEM’s Division of Fish and Wildlife projects that the 60 percent of the 275,000 pound quota of summer flounder allocated to Rhode Island by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) for the months of November and December has been harvested. This action is being taken to keep Rhode Island within the quota and to keep fish available to commercial fishermen and consumers throughout as much of the year as possible. -30- |
