DEM ANNOUNCES THAT DEER HUNTING PERMITS ARE NOW AVAILABLE

PROVIDENCE - The Department of Environmental Management announces that the 2001 deer hunting permits are now available at most license vendors and at DEM's licensing office at 235 Promenade Street in Providence.

The 2001 deer hunting permits are similar to those of last year and are available to residents for $7.50 and to nonresidents for $25.50.

Deer hunters must also purchase a 2001 Rhode Island hunting license and must have passed the mandatory hunter education and/or bowhunter education course prior to purchase. A separate permit must be purchased for each deer and season type. Hunters should mark the back of the permits in some manner to distinguish each one, as they all look similar.

In addition, Northwest Cooperative deer hunting permits will be available as of September 1. Hunters can request a free permit for archery and/or muzzle-loader deer hunting by mailing a self-addressed, stamped envelope to DEM's Fish and Wildlife Field Headquarters, Box 218, West Kingston, RI 02892. Please note which permit types are being requested.
