DEM's Great Swamp shooting range, which is operated by the Division of Fish & Wildlife, was closed in July for upgrades that will enhance safety, accessibility and amenities. The 25-year old range is the only public range in Rhode Island and serves about 800 small caliber firearms owners a year through a no-cost permit system. The range is expected to reopen next spring with a heightened backstop, handicapped access and improved parking.
