DEM ASKS BOWHUNTERS TO RECORD WILDLIFE SIGHTINGS PROVIDENCE - The Department of Environmental Management is asking archery deer hunters to voluntarily keep a wildlife sighting survey log that will be used by the Division of Fish and Wildlife to monitor distribution and long term population trends for a variety of wildlife species. Participants will use a special reporting card to record their hunting hours and sightings of fisher, coyote, wild turkey and other species throughout the season, which on the mainland runs from October 1 through January 31. The log is similar to those used successfully in other states, such as West Virginia and New York. The sighting logs are available at sporting goods stores where archery deer permits are sold and at DEM's Great Swamp Field Headquarters in West Kingston. For more information, call the field headquarters at 789-0281. -30- |
