DEM ANNOUNCES NEW CONSTRUCTION PROJECT AT PULASKI PARK
Vehicle Access Temporarily Restricted

PROVIDENCE - The Department of Environmental Management has announced the start of a construction project at Pulaski Memorial State Park in Glocester to replace the old outhouse-like restroom buildings with a modern, handicapped accessible restroom facility and office. Site work for the project will take place throughout much of the open area of the park in preparation for installation of a new septic system and stormwater control structures, the drilling of a new water well, and the construction of the new facility.

Vehicle access to the park is currently restricted for safety reasons while the old buildings are being dismantled and old wells are uncovered. Gates will be closed at 3 p.m. on weekdays, and will remain closed on weekends. However, the park will remain open to walkers, and, this winter, to cross country skiers. Visitors can park outside the gates and walk into the park.

The new restroom facility has been designed to blend into its surroundings. It will include accessibility features and will be constructed closer to the parking area. The building will be heated so it can remain open for use by cross country skiers throughout the winter. A wide walkway will lead from the restroom area to the beach, and will pass by the existing changing facility, which will be incorporated into the new site design.

Caputo and Wick of Rumford designed the facility and is overseeing construction. Maron Construction of Providence has been awarded the construction contract. Funding for the $680,000 project includes $340,000 from the Governor's Capital Fund and $340,000 from the National Park Service Land and Water Conservation Fund. The project is expected to be completed by Memorial Day 2002.
