DEM ANNOUNCES TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF STAFFORD POND BOAT RAMP

PROVIDENCE - The Department of Environmental Management alerts boaters that the state boat ramp on the east shore of Stafford Pond in Tiverton has been closed until further notice.

The ramp has been closed at the request of the Stone Bridge Fire District to protect their public water supply from any potential terrorist threat. The measure is consistent with recommendations of federal emergency response officials to water districts throughout the country to limit public access to reservoirs used for public drinking water.

The Stafford Pond boat ramp is the only boat ramp maintained by DEM that accesses a public water supply.
