DEM INCREASES POSSESSION LIMIT FOR COMMERCIAL SUMMER FLOUNDER FISHERY

PROVIDENCE - The Department of Environmental Management will increase the daily possession limit for the commercial summer flounder fishery from 350 pounds to 1,000 pounds per vessel effective Thursday, November 29.

The adjustment is being made to enable the Rhode Island fishing industry to harvest the full November - December quota of 303,879 pounds of summer flounder allocated by the Rhode Island Marine Fisheries Council. DEM's Division of Fish and Wildlife has projected that under the 350-pound possession limit, the allocation would not be fully utilized by the end of December.
