DEM ANNOUNCES THAT DAILY POSSESSION LIMIT FOR BLACK SEA BASS HAS BEEN LOWERED TO 7,000 POUNDS ALONG ATLANTIC COAST

PROVIDENCE - The Department of Environmental Management has announced that a possession limit adjustment for the commercial black sea bass fishery has been made by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission. The adjustment affects all Atlantic seaboard states.

Under emergency rule, the Commission has reduced the daily possession limit from 9,000 pounds to 7,000 pounds per day during the January 1 - March 31 quarter until the federal quota is harvested. The preliminary coastwide quota allocated for that quarter is 1,248,860 pounds, which will be adjusted for overages sustained during the previous quarter.

The reduction is part of an ongoing effort to manage the black sea bass fishery while making fish available to commercial fishermen and consumers throughout the longest period of time possible.
