DEM SETS DATES FOR CLASS IV SOIL EVALUATOR AND ISDS DESIGNERS' EXAMS PROVIDENCE - The Department of Environmental Management will offer licensing examinations for Class IV soil evaluators and Individual Sewage Disposal System (ISDS) Designers this fall.A Class IV license has been required for all soil evaluators since January 2001. Applicants for the Class IV exam must be registered as professional soil scientists, or have a combination of experience and education that includes a minimum of nine semester hours in soil science from an accredited university. All applications to DEM for ISDS designs must be submitted by an ISDS designer holding a valid DEM ISDS designer license. The exams to license Class I, II, III and IV ISDS designers are offered once annually. The exam to license Class IV soil evaluators will take place on Thursday, September 26 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will have both a written and a field component. A pre-examination briefing session will be held Thursday, September 5, from 9 a.m. to noon in Room 280 at DEM headquarters in Providence. The meeting places for each component of the exam will be provided at the briefing session. The registration deadline for the briefing session is Wednesday, August 28, and applications to take the exam must be received at DEM no later than Thursday, September 5. Individuals who cannot attend the briefing session should contact Deb Knauss by email at dknauss@dem.state.ri.us or at 222-4700 ext. 7612 to request that the information be mailed. The exam to license Class I ISDS Designers will take place on Thursday, November 21, from 8 a.m. to noon in Room 300 at DEM Headquarters. A pre-examination briefing session will be held from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on October 31. The deadline to register for the briefing session is October 23. Applications to take the Class I exam must be received by October 31. The exams to license Class II and III Designers will take place on Friday, November 22, in Room 300 at DEM Headquarters in Providence. The Class II exam will be administered from 8 a.m. to noon; the Class III exam will be administered from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. A pre-examination briefing session for the Class II and III exams will be held November 1 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. in Room 300 at DEM's 235 Promenade Street offices in Providence. The deadline to register for the briefing session is October 24, and applications to take the Class II and II exams must be received at DEM by November 1. Information distributed at the pre-examination briefing sessions will be mailed to individuals who registered for the sessions but are unable to attend. Seating for both the information sessions and the exams are by pre-registration only. Pre-qualification requirements apply for each class of license.
