DEM ANNOUNCES THAT 2002-2003 HUNTING, TRAPPING ABSTRACT IS AVAILABLE

PROVIDENCE - The Department of Environmental Management's Division of Fish and Wildlife has announced that the 2002 Hunting and Trapping abstract is now available at most hunting license vendors and at the DEM licensing office at the department's headquarters, 235 Promenade Street in Providence. The abstracts are free, and contain information about the current seasons and bag limits as well as other useful regulations.

There are a few typographical errors of which hunters should be aware.

Regarding mourning doves: on page 6, the third season date should read January 1 - January 15, 2003 (not 2002); and on page 8, the legal hunting hours should read noon to sunset from September 25 through October 12, and sunrise to sunset from October 19 through November 24 and from January 1 through January 15.

Regarding the Block Island shotgun season for deer: on page 7, the line November 2 through 11, 2002 is incorrect and should be stricken. The remaining dates are correct.

The on-line version of the abstract has been corrected, and can be found on the DEM website, www.dem.ri.gov by clicking on publications, then regulations (Fish and Wildlife.)

The abstract, which is published as an informational tool, outlines general hunting and trapping laws but is not a legal document or a substitute for the official regulations on file with the Rhode Island Secretary of State's office.
