DEM INCREASES CATCH LIMITS FOR COMMERCIAL SCUP FISHERY PROVIDENCE - The Department of Environmental Management has announced that the daily commercial possession limit of scup will increase from 200 pounds to 300 pounds effective Sunday, October 20 for all gear types except floating fish traps.This action is being taken to ensure that the 1.7 million-pound quota of scup allocated to the state for the May through October period is fully utilized. Based on the latest landing reports, approximately 200,000 pounds of scup is still available to be harvested. The possession limit for floating traps will remain at 1,000 pounds per vessel. This adjustment is part of DEM's ongoing quota management program, which is designed to allow some harvesting of these resources for as much of the year as possible. The recreational possession limit remains 50 fish per person until December 31. -30- |
