COMMERCIAL POSSESSION LIMIT FOR BLACK SEA BASS WILL BE LOWERED ON THURSDAY, OCTOBER 24

PROVIDENCE: The Department of Environmental Management has announced that the daily commercial possession limit for black sea bass will be lowered from 750 to 100 pounds on Thursday, October 24.

The action is being taken to comply with the federal Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council and the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission fishery management plans for black sea bass. Those plans require all states from North Carolina to Maine to reduce their possession limits to 100 pounds per day once 60 percent of the October - December coast-wide quota of 656,274 pounds is projected to be landed. The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission has notified DEM that this trigger has been reached and that all affected states must therefore reduce their possession limit.
