DEM PURCHASE OF RINGROSE FARM WILL PROVIDE UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY FOR SOUTHSIDE COMMUNITY LAND TRUST TO OPERATE COMMUNITY FARM PROVIDENCE - Governor Almond, the Department of Environmental Management and DEM's partners in the undertaking will announce the purchase of the 50-acre Ringrose Farm on the Cranston/Johnston line, and the start of a joint venture that is one of the first of its kind in the nation: the operation of a community farm on the property that will provide an opportunity for ethnic farming in close proximity to urban areas of Providence and Cranston.The purchase of the farm and planning for the future community farm operations involved a number of partners: DEM, the Southside Community Land Trust, the Agricultural Land Preservation Commission, the City of Cranston, the Champlin Foundations, The Nature Conservancy, the West Bay Land Trust, and the US Department of Agriculture. -30- *Directions to event site: Take Rt. 295 to Exit 4 (Plainfield Pike.) If traveling on 295 North, bear left at exit. From 295 South, bear right off the exit. Proceed 2 ½ miles west on Plainfield Pike. Take a left at Courtney's Restaurant onto Pippin Orchard Road. (Ringrose Community Farm is located on the right, shortly after the Plainfield Pike intersection.) However, to get to the event, continue on Pippin Orchard Road about one mile to Scituate Avenue. The Good Earth Greenhouse, site of the event, is on that corner, at 1800 Scituate Avenue. |
