SEASONAL QUOTA REACHED, COMMERICAL BLACK SEA BASS FISHERY TO CLOSE NOVEMBER 22 PROVIDENCE - The Department of Environmental Management has announced that effective Friday, November 22 the commercial fishery for black sea bass will be closed in Rhode Island waters. The closure, required by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, complements action taken by the National Marine Fisheries Service to close federal waters to the commercial harvest and possession of black sea bass by federal permit holders, effective on November 20. The action is based on federal analysis of current landings data, which projects that the 656,274-pound October 1 - December 31 coast-wide quota for black sea bass will be fully utilized this week. The black sea bass fishery will reopen in both state and federal waters on January 1. The recreational black sea bass fishery remains open with a daily possession limit of 25 fish. -30- |
