YEARLY QUOTAS REACHED; COMMERCIAL TAUTOG AND BLACK SEA BASS FISHERIES CLOSED UNTIL 2004

PROVIDENCE - The Department of Environmental Management has announced that the yearly quotas for the commercial tautog and black sea bass fisheries have been harvested and the two fisheries closed on November 19 for the year in Rhode Island waters. The 2003 quota for tautog was 39,501 pounds and for black sea bass was 360,224 pounds.

The black sea bass fishery is scheduled to reopen on January 1, with a possession limit of 1,500 pounds per vessel per calendar day. The tautog fishery is scheduled to reopen on April 15, with a possession limit of 10 fish per day.
