PRESERVATION OF BORDERS PROPERTY WILL PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR OPEN SPACE PRESERVATION AND AGRICULTURAL USES IN FOSTER PROVIDENCE - Through a cooperative partnership effort, the Department of Environmental Management, the RI Agricultural Land Preservation Commission, the US Department of Agriculture/NRCS, and The Nature Conservancy have acquired the development rights to the Borders property in Foster for open space and agricultural purposes. Located near the Scituate Reservoir, the Borders property is an historic farm that is part of a grant of land from the King of England. The 197-acre property is located at 31 North Road in Foster.Participating in the announcement of this important acquisition will be DEM Acting Director Frederick Vincent; Judith Bailey, Chair of the Agricultural Land Preservation Commission; State Conservationist Judith Doerner, of the US Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service; Kathleen Wainwright of The Nature Conservancy; Michael McMahon, Executive Director of the RI Economic Development Corporation; and Jed Dixon of Borders Farm Preservation Inc. -30- *Directions from Providence: Follow Route 295 North and to Exit 6 (Rt. 6 West, toward Hartford, CT.) Stay on Rt. 6 West (stay to left where Rt. 101 or Hartford Pike splits off to the right in Scituate. Take left on Rt. 94 (Foster Center Rd.) in Foster. Take right on North Road. Farm is a few miles up the road. |
