GOVERNOR CARCIERI TO JOIN DEM, FEDERAL AND LOCAL OFFICIALS IN GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY FOR PAWTUCKET SOCCER COMPLEX

PROVIDENCE - Governor Donald Carcieri will join Department of Environmental Management Acting Director Frederick Vincent, Pawtucket Mayor James Doyle, and John H. Chafee Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor Commission Chairman Michael Creasey at groundbreaking ceremonies for the Pawtucket Municipal Soccer Complex on Wednesday, October 6.

The new facility will feature two regulation and two youth soccer fields, walking trails, a concession stand, restroom facilities, and a parking lot. When completed, the facility will be home to the Pawtucket Youth Soccer League, which has over 1,000 children enrolled, and will serve as home field for the City's three high school and junior high school soccer teams.

Funding for the project included $450,000 in state open space and recreation bond funds, and $300,000 in federal funds through the National Park Service.

Directions from Providence: Take Route 95 North to Exit 28 (School Street) in Pawtucket. At the end of the ramp take a right. At the first light turn left onto Division Street. Stay on Division Street until you reach the intersection of Division Street and Columbus Avenue. Take a right onto Columbus Avenue.
