DEM SCHEDULES ISDS INSTALLER EXAM FOR SEPTEMBER 15; APPLICATION DEADLINE SEPTEMBER 9

Prep Class to be held at URI on September 8

PROVIDENCE - The Department of Environmental Management has scheduled an examination to license installers of individual sewage disposal systems for Thursday, September 15, at 9 a.m. at DEM Headquarters, 235 Promenade Street, in Providence. A second date will be scheduled only if the number of applicants exceeds the capacity of the exam room.

The license applies to the installation of both residential and commercial septic systems in unsewered areas. The license does not authorize installers to complete tie-ins to municipal sewer lines.

Preparatory material for the exam, including review of procedures and regulations pertinent to the installation of individual sewage disposal systems, will be incorporated into a University of Rhode Island Onsite Wastewater Training Center class scheduled for Thursday, September 8, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the university. Although the course is not mandatory for exam applicants, attendance is strongly recommended.

Applications for the licensing examination and registration material for the Onsite Wastewater Training Center class may be obtained at DEM's ISDS program office at DEM Headquarters or by calling 222-6820 weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Applications and registration materials are also available on DEM's website, www.dem.ri.gov, by selecting "Programs," then "ISDS," (following "Water Resources") and then the link to the "Installers and Designers Licensing Program."

Applicants must submit a complete application along with a check in the amount of $55 payable to the General Treasurer, State of Rhode Island, to DEM's Office of Management Services, 235 Promenade Street, Providence, RI 02908-5767, no later than 4 p.m. Friday, September 9.

For additional information, contact Deb Knauss at DEM at 222-4700 ext. 7612.
