EARTH DAY RI SEEKING NOMINATION FOR 2007 ENVIRONMENTALIST OF THE YEAR AWARDS

PROVIDENCE - Earth Day RI has been giving Environmentalist of the Year Awards since 2000. These awards recognize individuals, groups, businesses and/or corporations each year that have gone beyond the call of duty to protect and preserve Rhode Island's natural environment.

Do you know someone who has worked hard to protect or enhance the environment? Has a business or organization shown leadership in reducing the impact on the environment? Does a local youth or school group deserve special recognition for its environmental efforts? Show your appreciation by submitting a nomination for the Earth Day Rhode Island Environmentalist of the Year Award. Nomination forms are available on the Earth Day Rhode Island website, www.earthdayri.org, and should be submitted by mid-march to Earth Day RI, c/o DEM, 235 Promenade Street, Suite 330, Providence, RI 02908, Attention: Melinda Hopkins.

Earth Day RI kicked off its 2007 year by holding elections at its September meeting. Officers are Jef Fornaro, President; Richard Brussard, Vice President; Martha Graziano, Treasurer; and Executive Board members Jef Fornaro, Richard Brussard, and Terri Bisson. Earth Day RI meets at 5:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at DEM headquarters in Providence, and new members are welcome. Earth Day RI supports and promotes year-round environmental education and awareness in the Ocean State. The organization encourages Rhode Islanders to raise their environmental consciousness by committing to "Take 3" steps to improve their environment. "Take 3" is a call to action which suggests dozens of ways to save energy, conserve water, reduce waste, and respect nature. For further information about "Take 3" and other Earth Day RI-sponsored programs and activities, please visit www.earthdayri.org.
