DEM TO HOLD PUBLIC HEARING ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 20 REGARDING PROPOSED CHANGES TO STATE COMMERCIAL FISHERIES REGULATIONS PROVIDENCE - The Department of Environmental Management announces that it will hold a public hearing on Monday, November 20 on a number of proposed changes to the state's commercial marine fisheries management regulations.The proposed changes include several alternatives to the quota management programs governing summer flounder and scup. A proposal to amend the summer flounder exemption certificate program will also be considered. The proposed changes address the sale and replacement of vessels under the program. Also at the hearing, two alternative definitions of lobster v-notch marking will be considered: the current 1/8 inch standard recently enacted via emergency regulations, and a newly proposed zero-tolerance standard. Copies are also available at DEM's Division of Fish and Wildlife Headquarters at the Oliver Stedman Government Center in Wakefield, and at the DEM's Marine Fisheries office at Fort Wetherill in Jamestown. The November 20 hearing will be held at 6 p.m. at the Corless Auditorium at the University of Rhode Island's Bay Campus, located on South Ferry Road in Narragansett. Written comments concerning the proposed regulations can also be submitted to the Division of Fish and Wildlife at 3 Fort Wetherill Road, Jamestown, RI 02809 by noon on November 20. -30- |
