DEM ANNOUNCES REOPENING OF GREAT SWAMP SHOOTING RANGE

PROVIDENCE - The Department of Environmental Management announces that the Great Swamp shooting range operated by the Division of Fish and Wildlife will reopen on a limited basis beginning on January 2, with winter hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, weather permitting. The range will reopen on a full-time basis on April 1, 2007.

All shooters must have a permit in order to use the range. Permits are available free of charge at the Division's offices at the Stedman Government Center in Wakefield as well as at the Great Swamp Management Area, and at DEM's Office of Licensing and Boat Registration at DEM Headquarters, 235 Promenade Street in Providence.

The range is located within the Great Swamp Management Area at 277 Great Neck Road in West Kingston. Facilities include a 50-yard rifle/pistol range, which can accommodate up to eight shooters, as well as a shotgun field for clay targets.
