DEM SAYS COMMERCIAL FISHERMEN CAN USE THEIR 2007 LICENSES THROUGH MID-JANUARY

PROVIDENCE - The Department of Environmental Management announces that due to a processing delay, commercial fishermen who have applied for but not yet received their 2008 licenses may continue to fish, using their 2007 licenses through Tuesday, January 15. Commercial fishermen must have their 2007 licenses, set to expire on December 31, on their persons while fishing during the two-week extension.

Application forms for the 2008 licenses were sent to all commercial fishermen in mid-December, somewhat later than in past years. The resultant influx of applications at one time has created a backlog, which staff expects to clear within a week to 10 days.
