DEM URGES RHODE ISLANDERS TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF PAPER/E-WASTE COLLECTION DAY AT BETTER SHRED PROCESSING PLANT ON SEPTEMBER 27

PROVIDENCE - The Department of Environmental Management is partnering with Better Shred, the RI Resource Recovery Corporation, and Office Recycling Solutions - Cartridge World RI in an effort to offer safe ways to dispose of confidential documents, old computers and electronic equipment and increase public awareness of recycling issues.

On Saturday, September 27, Better Shred will host a paper shredding and e-waste collection event at its processing plant located 21 Palmer Avenue in Cranston from 8 a.m. to noon. Residents and small businesses are invited to drop off unwanted personal records and documents that they would like to have shredded in a secure environment. The event will also offer an opportunity to dispose of electronic waste associated with computers, including monitors, CPUs, keyboards, printers, UPSs and mice. Televisions cannot be recycled at this collection event. For questions about other items that will be accepted, call Mike Mancuso at 884-0321.

A business enterprise of CranstonArc, Better Shred was established to meet the growing need for safe and secure destruction of sensitive documents, and to provide a source of employment opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities. Better Shred strives to promote social and environmental responsibility. Office Recycling Solutions - Cartridge World offers businesses a green approach for their electronic waste. E-waste handled by Cartridge World is dismantled in state and shipped to domestic recyclers rather than overseas for further reclamation of metals and plastic.

There is no cost to take part in Recycling Awareness Day, although donations to CranstonArc for participation in this event would be appreciated.
