STATE LANDS ON PRUDENCE ISLAND REMAIN OPEN TO DEER HARVESTING AS QUOTA HAS NOT BEEN REACHED

PROVIDENCE - The Department of Environmental Management is notifying hunters that the North end and South end management areas on Prudence Island remain open to deer hunting.

Based on an error by the check station vendor indicating that the harvest quota had been reached, DEM closed the area to hunting yesterday. Further review of harvest data indicates that an additional 24 deer — six on the North end and 18 on the South end — can be harvested under the quota.

Private lands are still open to deer hunting with written landowner permission co-signed by the chief of police.

For more information, contact DEM's Division of Fish & Wildlife Great Swamp Field Headquarters at 789-0281 or 789-7481.
