DEM CANCELS SATURDAY'S FIRE TOWER EVENT AT CHOPMIST FORESTRY HEADQUARTERS DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER

PROVIDENCE - The Department of Environmental Management announces that due to inclement weather and potentially hazardous climbing conditions, the fire tower at the Division of Forest Environment's Chopmist Headquarters in North Scituate will not be open tomorrow.

The public had been invited to climb the 85-foot fire tower at the Saturday event, weather permitting. The tour will not be rescheduled this year.

Built in 1967, the forest fire lookout tower stands well above the surrounding forest canopy, offering observers a 360-degree breathtaking view of the fall foliage. On clear days the Newport and Jamestown Bridges are clearly visible.
