Groundwater Certification
Approximately 25% of the state's population depends on groundwater for their water supply, & approximately two- thirds of the cities and towns in Rhode Island depend on groundwater for all of their potable water. Groundwater is classified using a four class system based on groundwater supply potential, use & quality. The Groundwater Certification Program ensures compliance with the classifications by reviewing & certifying proposed actions or facilities that will or could have adverse impacts on groundwater.
