Nonpoint Source Pollution
Refers to pollution that lacks a discrete discharge point, (landfill lechate & septic system discharge) or pollution that comes from numerous lesser sources (urban runoff). To help control nonpoint sources, Section 319 of the Clean Water Act, enables the development of state management programs & establishes grant allotments. Rhode Island's program particularly concentrates on the development of innovative pollution management policies & water quality management using the watershed approach while focusing on areas such as septic programs & wetlands policy, marina management, land use planning, soil erosion & sediment control, & stormwater management.
