SHELLFISH HARVESTERS TAGGING PROGRAM

New commercial shellfish tagging and handling requirements were adopted in June 2002 for Narragansett Bay, Winnipaug Pond, Quonochontaug Pond, Ninigret Pond, Point Judith Pond, and Great Salt Pond. The grace period allowing individuals to become familiar with these changes will end November 30, 2002. After that time, the new requirements will be strictly enforced.

Workshops were conducted by the Marine Fisheries Section during the grace period to allow harvesters and dealers the opportunity to become familiar with the new requirements. The following "RI Shellfish Harvest Area Tagging Maps" reflect the new zones that must be identified on the tags.

Text detailing these requirements can be found on page 18, Part 4.31 - Tagging of Shellfish of the RI Marine Regulations

(Note: These maps should not be confused with pollution closure maps)
