Office of Communications and Media Relations Gail Mastrati Communications Director 235 Promenade Street Providence, RI 02908-5767 (401) 222-4700 ext. 2402 Overview The communications office performs education and public outreach for all department programs and serves as a catalyst for promoting the department's mission to preserve the quality of Rhode Island's environment, maintain the health and safety of its residents, and protect the natural systems upon which life depends. Program highlights include educating the public to quality of life issues including preservation of open space, health protection through pollution control and behavior change, and the importance of species and habitat protection. The program also promotes public awareness of the department's work on its behalf. The Office's objectives are to enlist the support of the public, change or reinforce behavior in ways that improve the environment and the public's health and safety, and increase the department's visibility in effecting such change in a positive manner. In a proactive manner, we solicit the help and support of the media; produce and distribute educational materials; hold public and press events and issue informative news releases; and work cooperatively with other agencies and groups to promote sound environmental and health and safety issues. |
