The 550,000 square foot Fidelity Investments Corporate Offices and parking garage, designed for a workforce of 2,000, are the newest buildings on Fidelity’s 380 acre campus in Smithfield, Rhode Island. The state of the art design, which was awarded LEED Silver certification by the United States Green Building Council on September 17, 2009, maintains 60% more vegetated open space than is required by code.

According to project engineer Richard D. Kimball (RDK) Company, prior to construction of the new facility Fidelity was spending $1 million per year on irrigation costs for the Smithfield campus. In order to ease this financial burden, RDK developed a storm drainage system that collects rainwater from the roof of the 100,000 square foot parking garage and discharges it into a 40,000 gallon cistern, which stores the stormwater and uses it for irrigating the landscaped areas adjacent to the new building and garage.
